Redefining Recovery
When it comes to substance use disorder, recovery isn't a singular milestone. It's a practice.
For some, the journey toward recovery starts with harm reduction: staying safer while building trust and readiness. For others, it begins after a major transition like inpatient treatment or incarceration, when the work of rebuilding daily life begins. For many, it's an lifelong effort to maintain progress amidst daily pressure.
For all - recovery takes community.
At Common Ground Recovery Partners, we partner with people at every point along the recovery continuum, working alongside trusted providers, family members, and employers to create a system that meets people where they are with the resources and support they need.
Common Ground Recovery Partners was founded by Mike McLaughlin, a Philadelphia-area addiction professional with a decade of experience working at every level of the recovery system - from homeless and crisis outreach on the streets of Kensington to drug and alcohol counseling and public health program management.

Why People Trust Us
"Mike was the component I needed in my recovery to make it work. He made the work that you have to put into it not feel like work. I have 4 years and I still connect with him all the time. I'm very grateful for him and I feel blessed to have him in my corner. I feel like we share my success in recovery. He inspired me to give to others, what he gave to me. That service to others struggling is the greatest reward." Aaron J.
"I was in a cycle of Use. Abuse. Rehab. Repeat. I couldn't get any more than 2 or 3 months of clean time. Then Mike dropped into my life. I know I wasn't easy to deal with. I would say anything I could think of just to argue. He would just smile and say 'OK'. It was his action that made me want to make real change in my life. I lost my mother during recovery. I thank God I had Mike during that time, otherwise I probably would have joined her shortly after. He carried me through the worst time in my life. I'm forever grateful for him." Joe C.
"Common Ground Recovery Partners provided exceptional recovery coaching during one of the most challenging periods my family faced. They helped us understand the dynamics of my mother's alcohol addiction, set realistic expectations, and communicated in ways that supported - not escalated - the situation. What stood out most was their ability to balance expertise with empathy and zero judgment. They are a rare resource: knowledgeable, accessible, and genuinely committed to helping families move toward stability and recovery." Ann B.
"Mike has a rare blend of education, experience, and genuine insight into the human psyche. He's an invaluable ally for anyone who uses substances or wants to better understand someone they love who does. He leads with compassion, offering support through a harm reduction lens, and connects with people from all walks of life." Steve J.
